Our intensive Transport Manager CPC classroom course is nine days, plus a final exam day. Our tutors will guide you through the syllabus with lots of in-class exam preparation. We run CPC courses for both road haulage and passenger operators. Classroom courses are held every two months to coincide with the CILT paper-based exams. Classes held in Markfield, Leicestershire. The total price is £1350 including VAT & exam fees.

Home Study

Some candidates choose to study in the comfort of their home rather than attending a classroom course. This is fine, but you must still sit your examinations at an accredited exam centre. Our home study course gives you all the resources you need to study towards the CPC qualification. You get printed study notes and access to an online suite of multiple choice and case study exercises.

When booking your course, please make sure that you will have sufficient time before your exam date to study and prepare thoroughly.

What Is the Transport Manager CPC?
The Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in Road Haulage is a legal requirement for anyone nominated as a Transport Manager on a Standard National or Standard International Operator’s Licence. Issued under EU Regulation 1071/2009 and retained in UK law post-Brexit, the qualification demonstrates that your business has a competent, accountable individual responsible for the safe and legal operation of your fleet.
Whether you’re a sole trader looking to manage your own licence, an operations manager stepping into a Transport Manager role, or an employer investing in your team’s compliance capability, the CPC is the qualification that underpins it all.

Course Overview: What You’ll Learn

The Transport Manager CPC Road Haulage syllabus is set by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and covers everything you need to manage a compliant, efficient road haulage operation. The course is split across two examined units:

Unit 1: Road Transport Law and Legislation

Operator licensing: applying for, maintaining, and renewing an operator’s licence

Drivers’ hours rules: GB domestic rules, EU regulations, and AETR agreement

Tachograph legislation and enforcement

Vehicle roadworthiness and inspection requirements

Cabotage and international transport rules

Unit 2: Business and Financial Management

Business structures and commercial law

Financial management: profit and loss, cash flow, and costing

Fleet purchasing, leasing, and maintenance economics

Health and safety obligations in transport operations

Customer service and quality management

Both units are assessed by written examination, set and marked by CILT. The Road Haulage examinations are paper-based and are held at approved exam centres on fixed national dates – H-TEC’s classroom course schedule is aligned to these dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Transport Manager CPC course take?

H-TEC’s classroom course runs over nine teaching days, plus a final exam day. Days run 09:00–16:00 at our training centre in Markfield, Leicestershire. Home study is self-paced, but we strongly recommend allowing a minimum of eight to ten weeks before your exam date.

How much does the Transport Manager CPC cost?

The total cost for H-TEC’s classroom course is £1,350 including VAT and CILT exam fees – there are no hidden extras. A place can be reserved with a 10% non-refundable deposit. Home study materials are available separately; please contact us for current pricing.

Is the Transport Manager CPC a legal requirement?

Yes. Any haulage operator holding a Standard National or Standard International Operator’s Licence must have a nominated Transport Manager who holds a valid CPC qualification. Operating without one puts your licence at risk.

What happens after I pass the exam?

On passing both units, you’ll receive your CPC certificate from CILT. This is then used as evidence of professional competence when applying for or maintaining your Operator’s Licence with the Traffic Commissioner. Your certificate does not expire, but the traffic commissioner expects Transport Managers to stay current with industry developments – H-TEC’s CPC Refresher course supports this.

Can H-TEC deliver the course online?

Yes. As we are an approved exam centre, we can deliver this course either at our Markfield facility or via an online open course.

What’s the difference between Road Haulage and Passenger Transport CPC?

The syllabus and exams differ between the two routes. Road Haulage CPC covers freight operations; Passenger Transport CPC covers bus and coach operations. You must hold the appropriate CPC for your licence type.
