National Lorry Week is under way and celebrating its eighth year of championing lorry drivers and the industry as a whole. This year, the theme is ‘Love your Lorry’ and is geared towards owner drivers. Starting October 24th and drawing to a close on October 30th, the RHA’s National Lorry Week is a chance to celebrate this vital industry and all of the hard work they do.
Although the focus of this year’s National Lorry Week is on owner drivers, it’s also focused on bringing in new, talented recruits to join this thriving industry. Lorry drivers are the lifeblood of business, ensuring that supplies reach their destinations smoothly and on time. To keep this remarkable industry thriving, it’s important to appeal to the next generation and encourage them to jump in the driver’s seat for themselves.
This is more important than ever before, as supply chains continue to expand and fleet management becomes more complex. It’s also no surprise that this industry is dealing with new challenges ranging from Brexit red tape to delays in training up new recruits. That’s why National Lorry Week is so important – to keep the industry in the public’s eye and make these difficulties known.
Over 85% of all goods in the UK make their way to stores and facilities by lorry, so it really is the heart of many industries. So National Lorry Week is both a celebration of the hard workers in the industry and a chance to help support lorry drivers who do all of the heavy lifting that keeps society ticking over.
The RHA is taking the show on the road this year, travelling throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to celebrate lorry drivers, driver owners and the industry as a whole for all of the hard work they do.
Throughout the tour, those in attendance will get a chance to view the National Lorry Week fleet which is stopping by major cities throughout the UK. As part of the tour, the RHA will be meeting up with educators, politicians and industry partners to showcase all that is great about the industry – and what needs to be done to keep it a success.
