In a bold move towards safer equipment and smarter technology, Midlands-based equipment firm Cooks Midlands has started a trial of the Onsight AI Pedestrian Kit, bringing cutting-edge pedestrian detection and near-miss analysis technology to the region.
Why This Trial Matters
With pedestrian safety an ongoing priority across the UK’s leading construction sites, the ability to capture accurate behavioural data is crucial. Traditional collision statistics only tell part of the story, near misses, risky manoeuvres, and behaviour patterns often go unrecorded. Onsight AI closes that gap.
For Cooks Midlands, the trial represents an opportunity to:
- Demonstrate leadership in adopting forward-thinking safety tech
- Provide customers with cutting-edge, evidence-based solutions
- Strengthen partnerships with innovators like H-TEC
- Set a benchmark for future deployments across the Midlands and beyond
Looking Ahead
If successful, the trial could pave the way for wider adoption of the Onsight AI Pedestrian Kit across the sector where pedestrian interaction poses a risk. Cooks Midlands’ investment in intelligent safety solutions reflects a broader industry move towards proactive, data-driven decision-making and the company’s growing momentum suggests this trial may be just the beginning.
Strengthening a Long-Standing Partnership
The project also marks a new milestone in the ongoing collaboration between Cooks Midlands and H-TEC.
Speaking about the trial, H-TEC Director Emma Burdett said:
“H-TEC and Cooks have worked together for several years. I am delighted to confirm that this is our first trial with the Onsight kit, and I am equally delighted to hear the feedback that Cooks have for us, in the hope that this will be commissioned across their business as their go-to product offering for new and existing customers.”

H-TEC Group, an independent family-run fleet technology specialist and authorised Geotab partner, has partnered with UK transport operator SG Haulage to deliver a fully integrated fleet management and video telematics solution across the company’s growing fleet. Together, the partnership has delivered a 50% reduction in fleet collision risk, a 5% improvement in fuel economy, and helped SG Haulage avoid an estimated £10,000 in disputed insurance claims.
Operating a fleet of more than 40 vehicles, including tractor units, rigids, Moffetts and vans, across national and international routes, SG Haulage sought a single connected solution that could improve fleet visibility, support compliance requirements and provide greater operational oversight across its growing operation, including the high-value equipment and specialist movements the company carries out daily.
H-TEC’s solution combines Geotab’s industry-leading telematics platform with H-TEC’s hands-on fleet technology expertise and local support, delivering seamless vehicle tracking, video telematics, remote tachograph downloading and safety monitoring across SG Haulage’s fleet.
Measurable results within 6 months
Within six months of deployment, SG Haulage achieved a 50% reduction in average fleet collision risk. Real-time visibility of driver behaviour, including harsh braking and harsh acceleration, enabled the business to identify drivers who needed additional support, while also recognising and rewarding those performing well. The result has been a measurable shift in driver culture across the fleet.
Fuel economy improved by 5% through enhanced fleet visibility, route optimisation and driver performance insights; reducing unnecessary off-route journeys and cutting idling across the fleet.
Video telematics has also proven invaluable in protecting drivers and reducing business risk. During 2026 alone, SG Haulage experienced three separate incidents where third parties attempted to attribute fault to company drivers. In each case, camera footage was used to demonstrate driver innocence, helping the company avoid an estimated £10,000 in potential insurance-related costs. The additional visibility provided by connected camera technology has also contributed to improved insurance terms from the company’s brokers.
From manual compliance to connected fleet management
Prior to deploying the solution, SG Haulage relied on manual tachograph downloads and compliance processes. As the fleet expanded, these tasks became increasingly time-consuming and challenging to manage effectively.
Today, vehicle and driver data is automatically downloaded and analysed through the Geotab platform, providing real-time tracking that is vital for a company of SG Haulage’s scale, and particularly given the high-value equipment and specialist movements carried out across the fleet. Driver behaviour monitoring has enabled the business to identify coaching opportunities, reduce harsh driving events and unnecessary idling, and recognise high-performing drivers through targeted incentive programmes.
As an independent Geotab reseller, H-TEC provided end-to-end support throughout installation, configuration and ongoing account management, giving SG Haulage a single point of contact backed by both local expertise and a globally proven platform.
